The first-of-its-kind AFib History feature in watchOS 9 has received a number of local clearances and approvals from health authorities around the world, and will be available in more than 100 countries and territories, including the US, Australia, 6 Canada, Europe, Hong Kong, Mexico, South Africa, the UK, and more.
- The completely redesigned Compass app in watchOS 9 surfaces more in-depth information and three distinct views. The app displays a new hybrid view that simultaneously shows both an analog compass dial and a digital view. Turning the Digital Crown reveals an additional view that includes latitude, longitude, elevation, and incline, as well as an orienteering view showing Compass Waypoints and Backtrack. Backtrack uses GPS data to create a path showing where the user has been, which is useful if they get lost or disoriented and need help retracing their steps. It can turn on automatically in the background when off the grid. Compass Waypoints are a quick and convenient way to mark a location or point of interest directly in the app. Tapping the Compass Waypoint icon drops a waypoint. Selecting one provides a targeted view of the direction of the waypoint and an approximation of how far away it is.
- The Workout app in watchOS 9 includes new in-session views, such as Segments, Splits, and Elevation, that offer more precise workout data. Users can also improve their training with advanced workout experiences, including Heart Rate Zones, Custom Workouts, Pacer, and, coming later this year, Race Route. For triathlons or activities with any sequence of swimming, biking, or running, the new Multisport workout uses autodetection to easily switch between workouts and records transition times. watchOS 9 also brings more data and features to help track how efficiently users run. New running form metrics, including Stride Length, Ground Contact Time, and Vertical Oscillation, can all be added as metrics on Workout Views.
- Sleep tracking in watchOS 9 provides even more insights with the introduction of sleep stages. Apple Watch uses signals from the accelerometer to estimate when users are in REM, Core, or Deep sleep. Apple reveals Apple Watch Series 8 and the new Apple Watch SE

CUPERTINO, CALIFORNIA Apple today introduced Apple Watch Series 8 and the new Apple Watch SE, which bring groundbreaking technology and performance, and important safety innovations to the two best-selling smartwatches. Apple Watch Series 8 features the beloved design of Apple Watch, including a large, Always-On Retina display and a strong crack-resistant front crystal. With all-day 18-hour battery life, Apple Watch Series 8 builds on best-in-class health and safety features like the ECG app and fall detection by introducing temperature-sensing capabilities, retrospective ovulation estimates, Crash Detection, and international roaming. The new Apple Watch SE delivers the core Apple Watch experience, including Activity tracking, high and low heart rate notifications, and Emergency SOS, as well as the new Crash Detection feature and a completely redesigned back case that perfectly matches the three classic case finishes, all at a more affordable price of £259. Wrist Temperature Sensing for Women’s Health
The menstrual cycle is an important marker of health, and many physicians consider it a vital sign. Apple Watch Series 8 features innovative new temperature-sensing capabilities that give women further insights into their health, designed with the same privacy protections as with all other health data. 1
Apple Watch Series 8 takes a unique approach to temperature sensing with a two-sensor design — one sensor on the back of the watch, nearest the skin, and another just under the display — reducing bias from the outside environment.
Nighttime wrist temperature can be a good indicator of overall body temperature. The sensors in Apple Watch Series 8 sample the wrist temperature during sleep every five seconds and measure changes as small as 0.1° C. In the Health app, users can see nightly shifts in baseline temperature, which can be caused by exercise, jet lag, or even illness. 2
Utilizing the new temperature-sensing capabilities in Apple Watch Series 8, users can receive retrospective ovulation estimates. Knowing when ovulation has occurred can be helpful for family planning, and Apple Watch Series 8 makes it easy and convenient by providing these estimates in the Health app. Temperature sensing also enables improved period predictions.
Additionally, with iOS 16 and watchOS 9, all Cycle Tracking users can now receive a notification if their logged cycle history shows a possible deviation, such as irregular, infrequent, or prolonged periods, and persistent spotting, which can be symptoms of underlying health conditions.
Crash Detection
To enable Crash Detection, Apple developed an advanced sensor-fusion algorithm that leverages a new, more powerful gyroscope and accelerometer on Apple Watch, which now has the highest dynamic range accelerometer in any smartwatch. To create the algorithm, data was collected from these new motion sensors at professional crash test labs with common passenger cars in simulated real-world accidents, including head-on, rear-end, side-impact, and rollovers. In addition to motion data, Crash Detection uses the barometer, GPS, and the microphone on iPhone as inputs to detect the unique patterns that can indicate whether a severe crash has taken place.
When Apple Watch detects a severe car crash, the device will check in with the user and dial emergency services if they are unresponsive after a 10-second countdown. Emergency responders will receive the user’s device location, which is also shared with the user’s emergency contacts. When combined, Crash Detection on Apple Watch and iPhone work seamlessly to get users help efficiently. When a severe car crash is detected, the emergency services call interface will appear on Apple Watch, as it is most likely to be in closer proximity to the user, while the call is placed through iPhone if it is in range for the best possible connection.
Low Power Mode
To keep users connected for even longer, a new Low Power Mode can extend battery life to reach up to 36 hours for Apple Watch Series 8 with iPhone present. 3 This new mode temporarily disables or limits select sensors and features, including the Always-On Retina display, workout autostart, heart health notifications, and more.

Apple Watch Series 8 Lineup
Apple Watch Series 8 will be available across a range of case finishes, colors, and band types to fit a variety of personal styles. Apple Watch Series 8 comes in aluminum and stainless steel cases in two sizes, 41mm and 45mm, and is compatible with all bands. Aluminum case colors for Apple Watch Series 8 include starlight, midnight, silver, and (PRODUCT)RED, while the stainless steel case offers silver, graphite, and gold. With Apple Watch Studio, Apple Watch Series 8 can be paired with any available band in the same collection.
Apple Watch Nike and Apple Watch Hermès also debut new bands and watch faces this fall. Nike has vibrant new Sport Band colors and a new Sport Loop with the “Just Do It” logo woven right into the band. Starting this fall, any Apple Watch user running watchOS 9 — even those without a Nike model — will be able to access all the Nike watch faces, including the fresh colors coming to the Bounce face.
Apple Watch Hermès introduces two new bands: H Diagonal, which creates a sporty pattern of the Hermès H with hundreds of microperforations, and Gourmette Metal, which features a polished stainless steel chain and noir leather wrapping twice around the wrist. A whimsical new Hermès watch face called Lucky Horse beautifully complements the new bands and celebrates the equestrian roots of the house with an animated horse that sleeps when the wrist is down and comes alive when it is raised.
Apple Watch SE
The new Apple Watch SE delivers advanced features at a new low price, and is a great way for users to start their Apple Watch journey, use with Family Setup, or gift to their loved ones. Powerful upgrades include the S8 SiP advanced dual-core processor, the same processor that is in Apple Watch Series 8 and Apple Watch Ultra, making it 20 percent faster than the previous generation, along with Crash Detection and international roaming.
Apple Watch SE maintains the same case design, but features a redesigned matching back case made of a nylon composite material, making it lighter than ever. With watchOS 9, Apple Watch SE users can enjoy the benefits of the new Compass app in addition to the enhanced fitness and wellness features. Apple Watch SE is available in 40mm and 44mm aluminum cases, in midnight, starlight, and silver finishes, and is compatible with all bands.
Apple Watch and the Environment
Apple Watch Series 8 and Apple Watch SE are designed to minimize their impact on the environment. Both models are made with 100 percent recycled aluminum in the case, 100 percent recycled tungsten in the Taptic Engine, and 100 percent recycled rare earth elements in all magnets. In a first for Apple Watch, both models feature 100 percent recycled gold — in the plating of multiple printed circuit boards on Apple Watch Series 8, and in the plating of the SiP on the new Apple Watch SE. Both models are free of mercury, BFRs, PVC, and beryllium. No Apple Watch packaging uses outer plastic wrap, and 94 percent or more of the packaging is fiber based, bringing Apple closer to its goal of completely removing plastic from its packaging by 2025.
Today, Apple is carbon neutral for global corporate operations, and by 2030, plans to be 100 percent carbon neutral across the entire manufacturing supply chains and all product life cycles. This means that every Apple device sold, from component manufacturing, assembly, transport, customer use, charging, all the way through recycling and material recovery, will have net-zero climate impact.
Privacy
Privacy is fundamental in the design and development across all of Apple’s features. When a user’s iPhone is locked with a passcode, Touch ID, or Face ID, all of their health and fitness data in the Health app — other than Medical ID — is encrypted. Any Health data backed up to iCloud is encrypted both in transit and on Apple servers. When using iOS and watchOS with the default two-factor authentication and a passcode, Health app data synced to iCloud is encrypted end-to-end, meaning that Apple does not have the key to decrypt the data and therefore cannot read it.
Apple Watch Series 8
The Series 8 includes a dual temperature sensor that can record body temperature every 5 seconds, to detect the effects of alcohol, illness, or ovulation with health data encrypted to protect privacy. One sensor is next to the skin and the other is located behind the display to account for ambient temperature. It also features new motion sensors for Crash Detection of up to 256 Gs. The aluminum cases are available in starlight, midnight, silver, or (PRODUCT) RED while the stainless steel cases are available in gold, graphite, or silver. [2]

The Series 8 came pre-installed with watchOS 9, which was introduced on June 6 at the 2022 Worldwide Developers Conference. Supply chain reports indicated that its exterior design had been updated with flatter surfaces reminiscent of the aesthetic designs of the iPhone 12 and 13 series. Apple Watch 8 (2022): дата выхода и характеристики
C 2014 года Apple Watch стали эталоном модели умных часов для многих производителей. Со временем девайс значительно «поумнел» и обзавелся множеством полезных (и не совсем) функций. Осенью 2022 года маркетологи Apple представили очередное обновление своих смарт часов — на этот раз уже восьмое.
Вместе со «стандартными» Apple Watch 8 были показаны и совсем «базовые» Apple Watch SE, а также совершенно новые Apple Watch Ultra. Последние, пожалуй, оказались самыми революционными. А вот в Apple Watch 8 и SE 2 критических обновлений так и не появилось. Расскажем обо всем по порядку.
Дата выхода Apple Watch 8 в России
Как уже было сказано выше, все три модели часов анонсировали во время презентации 7 сентября. Мировые продажи Apple Watch 8 и Apple Watch SE 2 стартовали 16 сентября, а дату выхода более премиальных Apple Watch Ultra отложили до 23 сентября.
Техника Apple официально не поставляется в РФ, но, тем не менее, перекупщики техники начали выкладывать объявления о продаже часов в России уже через пару дней после мирового релиза. Скорее всего, такую технику закупали в соседних с Россией странах.
Крупные торговые сети пока лишь принимают предзаказы на часы, уверяя покупателей, что Apple Watch 8 и другие девайсы «уже скоро» появятся в продаже.
Apple Watch 8
Каких-то кардинальных изменений в дизайне или технической составляющей Apple Watch 8 не произошло. Часы получили новый процессор S8, но с задачами уровня наручного девайса прекрасно справлялся и S7. Замена процессора, скорее всего, произошла лишь в целях маркетинга.
Размеры корпуса и дизайн
Часы по-прежнему доступны в двух размерах — с диагональю экрана в 41 и 45 мм. Предполагается, что первая версия предназначена для обладателей тонких запястий.
Немного изменилась цветовая палитра корпуса часов. Теперь они доступны в четырех вариантах — темно-серый, золотой, серебряный и красный. В Apple Watch 7 цветов корпуса было пять.
Каких-то новых элементов управления в «стандартных» Apple Watch 8 не появилось, здесь также используется колесико digital-crown и сенсорный дисплей, который занимает почти всю поверхность алюминиевого корпуса.
Общий дизайн часов Apple Watch 8 полностью скопирован у Apple Watch 7. Владельцы девайса прошлого поколения точно не заметят разницы. А вот по сравнению с Apple Watch 6 новинка выглядит куда свежее за счет увеличенного экрана.
Новые датчики и сенсоры
Во время презентации Apple Watch 8 было озвучено ключевое улучшение — в часах появился датчик температуры кожи. Вот только используется он пока лишь для того, чтобы определять женские циклы. Возможно, что в будущем пользователям разрешат свободно измерять температуру тела и для других целей.
Также во всех трех моделях часов Apple, презентованных 7 сентября, появилась возможность распознавания ДТП. С помощью сенсоров алгоритм определяет резкое изменение положения часов в пространстве и запускает специальный режим. В нем Apple Watch предлагают владельцу связаться с экстренными службами или отменить режим тревоги.
Дисплей
Из-за оставшегося с Apple Watch 7 дизайна, дисплей новых часов никак не изменился. Здесь установлен always-on экран с разрешением 352 на 430 пикселей (для диагонали 41мм) и 396 на 484 пикселя (для диагонали 45мм).
Процессор и память
Во всех трех новых часах Apple установлен новый процессор S8, но изменения в нем, судя по всему, есть только на бумаге. По данным журналистов, у процессоров S6, S7 и S7 одинаковый идентификационный номер (SIP) 1 , а это значит, что по факту система остается одинаковой. Возможно, что в S8 ЦП часов обучили алгоритму, который запускается при ДТП.
Если говорить об остальных технических характеристиках, то в Apple Watch 8 установлено 1 Гб оперативной и 32 Гб встроенной памяти.
Apple Watch SE 2
В Apple окончательно сняли с продаж Apple Watch 3, поэтому новые Apple Watch SE 2 стали самыми доступными умными часами американской компании. Их позиционируют как «входной» девайс для тех, кто не понимает, нужны ли им вообще Apple Watch.
В плане дизайна и внешнего вида Apple Watch SE 2 почти не отличаются от предшественника. Инженеры изменили материал задней крышки часов, но со стороны этого не видно. Часы доступны в трех цветах корпуса — черном, серебристом и бежевом. Apple Watch SE 2 продают в двух вариантах с диагональю экрана в 40 и 44мм.
Каких-то новых датчиков в часы не добавили, здесь по-прежнему отсутствуют сенсоры для измерения ЭКГ и уровня кислорода в крови. Зато с появлением процессора S8 часы научились распознавать ДТП и включать соответствующий аварийный режим.
Цена на Apple Watch SE 2 оказалась неожиданно ниже, чем на часы первого поколения. Девайс с диагональю экрана в 40мм обойдется в 249$, а модель с экраном в 44мм — уже в 279$. При этом оригинальные Apple Watch SE на старте продавали как минимум за 299$.
Apple Watch Ultra
В конце презентации Apple показали свои самые продвинутые часы, которые в итоге назвали Apple Watch Ultra (инсайдеры ранее называли их Apple Watch Discover Edition).
Часы получили серьезные изменения дизайна. На титановом корпусе девайса появилась дополнительная кнопка, которую можно запрограммировать на свое усмотрение. Часы выдерживают нагрузки не только по привычным для Apple стандартам IP6X, но и по военным нормативам США MIL-STD 810 (удары, тряска, высокое давление и взрывные волны). Также в корпусе часов появился динамик на 86 децибел (уровень крика человека) — теперь девайс можно использовать как сирену, если вы потерялись. Заявлено, что от одного заряда аккумулятора часы проработают до 36 часов. Из-за внушительных размеров корпуса часов их вес вырос до 61 грамма — это почти в два раза больше, чем у самых компактных Apple Watch 8. Есть три версии ремешков Apple Watch Ultra — для бега, горных походов и плавания. При покупке с часами можно выбрать только один, а остальные купить отдельно при необходимости.
Диагональ дисплея часов составляет 49мм, это больше, чем в каких-либо моделях Apple Watch. По уровню подсветки дисплей девайса стал в два раза ярче, чем в стандартных Apple Watch 8.
В Apple Watch Ultra есть все актуальный датчики и сенсоры — уровня кислорода в крови, сердцебиения, ЭКГ и температуры. Также в часы установили еще более точный GPS-модуль.
Итоги
Презентация новых часов Apple Watch была откровенно скучной до момента с показом Apple Watch Ultra. Покупателям Apple Watch 8 уже второй год подряд продают одни и те же часы, но под разными названиями. Датчик, который определяет циклы женского здоровья, это явно не то, чего ожидает увидеть основная масса пользователей Apple.
С Apple Watch SE 2 ситуация не такая печальная — девайс стоит меньше, чем первая модель на старте продаж. Он определенно найдет своих непритязательных покупателей среди детей и их родителей.
Apple Watch Ultra оказались по-настоящему новыми часами в линейке девайсов Apple. С их появлением американская компания заглянула на очень узкий рынок носимых устройств для спортсменов от Garmin или Suunto. При этом часы от Apple выглядят куда элегантнее моделей конкурентов. Возможно, что вскоре для Apple Watch Ultra появятся менее брутальные браслеты и это сможет привлечь тех, кому просто нужны «Apple Watch на максималках», а не девайс для выживания в суровых условиях.
